This list ignores the price ceiling entirely and asks one question: which games give you the most for every dollar? Sometimes that's a $15 indie you play for years; sometimes it's a $50 RPG that's still cheap when you divide by a hundred-plus hours.

Value isn't the same as cheap. A $50 game you play for 150 hours can be better value than a $5 game you drop in an afternoon. These are the hours-per-dollar champions, ranked with live prices — with the worst-value trap named at the end.

Skip · Season passes and cosmetic bundles

The opposite of value is a season pass. Paying $30 for a pass of drip-fed cosmetics on top of a game you already own is the worst hours-per-dollar in the hobby — you often spend more on the pass than these entire games cost, for content you barely notice.

If value is the goal, put that money toward one of these instead. A hundred-hour game for the price of a season pass isn't close.

Our value-per-dollar score weighs how many hours of genuine enjoyment a game delivers against its real price, plus how well it holds up and how often it goes cheaper. The clearest value in gaming is a huge, deep game bought on the cheap end of its discount curve — a Witcher 3 at fifteen dollars, a Terraria with hundreds of hours of content. Those beat almost anything on a per-dollar basis.

We don't test games in a lab

Most "best cheap games" lists just re-rank the same store page. We don't, and we won't pretend to run a test lab we don't have.
